Designing Your Home

May 12th, 2011

Designing your own home can be a highly rewarding process. If done correctly – you will end up living in your dream house, designed to fit your desires exactly.  If you go about it the wrong way, however, you could end up spending lots of money on a house that you may not even like.

Building a house in Southern California is not cheap, so you should make sure that everything goes smoothly, or you may easily find yourself having spent past your budget before the house is even completed.  The following tips should help ensure that you get exactly what you want when you commission your custom San Diego home design

TAKE LOTS OF NOTES

Unless you plan on serving as the architect and sole construction labor, you will have to communicate all your desired features to other people.  If they do not have a clear idea of what you want, you probably won’t get it.
·         If you have seen a specific structure that you would like it to resemble, take pictures to show to the architect and workers.  In fact, you should be taking pictures of anything you see that you would like to incorporate into the design.  If you want your windows to look like the ones on a specific house that you often drive past, take pictures of those windows.
·         Look through magazines for ideas.  There are plenty of home design and interior decoration magazines available to help you get ideas on how the final product should look.
·         Plan out the smaller details, not just the major design aspects.  Figure out what colours you want, what materials you want your counter tops to be made of, where you want fixtures and appliances, and so on and so forth.
·         Review your budget every step of the way.  If you want to add in more design features than you can afford, you will have to make some cuts.  You can only build what you can pay for, so you may not be able to include everything you want.  If you have been making lots of notes, as previously suggested, it should be fairly easy to figure out which items you can afford and which ones you cannot.

HIRE A DESIGN-BUILD COMPAN

If you want to design your own custom home, it would be wise to work with a design-build company. San Diego design services like these work with you on each step of the design process, so that you are never left out.   Further, they perform all necessary aspects of the job.  A design-build company will feature a general contractor, architect, laborers, etc., so you will not have to hire any middlemen.  The design-build company handles all aspects of the project itself.

Different Types of Doors.

April 16th, 2011

Here at Kaybeedoors we have many different types of internal doors and external doors; these can be divided up into four main types of doors.

Panel Doors.
This type of door has panels inlaid from the surface of the door, there can be as many panels as you like, typical number of panels are 4 with the top two panel being larger (longer) than the botton two, but any arrangement is possible. The panel dont need to be made of wood but can be glass. These types of doors are probably the most common door available and can be seen in many different styles of home from Victorian homes to modern flats.

Glass Doors.
These door are made totally from glass, the glass must comply to BS 6026 standard, which is a minimum of 8mm toughened glass. The glass can be clear or opaque, for use say in a bathroom. These door are great for increasing the light within a home as even with opaque glass a large amo8unt of light passes through the door. These doors need to have a perfectly square frame in which to be fitted as they can not be trimmed, if your frames are not square made to measure glass doors can be specially made.

Flush Doors:
These doors are quite simply flat surfaced doors, with on panels or embossing on either side. This type of doors cam come finished (painted or vanished) or unfinished allowing you to finish the door to your required design. The great advantage of flush doors is they are the simplest to trim to size. This style of door is considered to be a very modern in style and are great for contemporary living. These can be made of solid wood or have two panels separated by a honeycomb centre.

Framed Ledge and Brace Doors.
Made with a Z shaped frame with interlocking boards that are tongue and grooved. These door give the country cottage style or farm look to a home, also giving a very solid looking finish to the door. These are often seen in a country kitchen setting.
