Construction of Internal External Doors

All our timber doors regardless of the type are constructed by hand. To
explain to you about the process I will use our Murfield Clear Pine
Door as an example.

Firstly the logs of timber are cut from pine
trees in Brazil. The pine trees that are planted in Brazil are grown
like crops. When trees are cut down new ones are planted to replace
them. The smaller mills have crops the size of Wales! Unlike hardwood a
Brazilian pine tree takes only 7 years to mature. The logs are then cut
into manageable lengths. Due to the scarcity of pine with no knots the
factories make all the components, the head rail, base rail and styles
themselves. They cut the pine into lengths then glue these lengths of
timber together. On a style there is always a strip of sold clear pine
glued to the outside edge so the door can be trimmed without the knotty
timber being reviled. In order to make the veneer that will be glued to
the outside of the styles etc the logs are boiled in huge vats for
sometime. This is done so that when they are put into the machine that
cuts the 2mm thick veneers the cutting is much easier and quicker as
the timber is much softer. When dried the strips of veneer are glued to
the engineered strips of timber. All the components are then put
together by hand. The completed door is quality checked then
shrink-wrapped ready for packing into the container.

All the timber is dried to a specific percentage in huge kilns.
