As Spring has at last arrived and the weather will hopefully starts to turn a bit less ‘arctic’, this month’s blog is all about getting outdoors – or rather, letting the outdoors in!

As well as internal and front doors, we also stock a fantastic selection of external doors which help connect you with your garden or outdoor space.

But how do you decide which type of door to go for? There’s French doors, sliding doors and bifolds – which is the best choice for you?

There are a lot of things to consider when choosing the right door for you property and here’s a few things you may want to take into consideration before you make your final decision:

Style

What sort of property have you got and what type of ‘look’ are you going for? For example, traditional French doors may work better if you are hoping to keep the original character of an older home and they come in lots of different shapes, styles and sizes which work well with sash windows and stained glass for example. Sliding doors meanwhile may not suit a more traditional property if you are hoping to be sympathetic to the original aesthetic and work better in a more contemporary house.

Space

What sort of space are you working with? Remember a French door will have panels which open as traditional doors, so you will need to allow room for this. They will also feature a ‘lip’, which must be stepped over so think of the practical aspects of this choice too. Bi-folds meanwhile can be fitted flush and so there is not ‘divide’ between outdoor and inside.

Cost

Cost is obviously an important consideration when choosing such doors. The most affordable choice would be French doors with sliding doors coming in a close second. Bi-fold doors however are more expensive but do remember they offer the most flexibility in terns of configuration whilst also enabling you to truly bring the outside in – and they may not be as expensive as you may think and we have prices starting from just £1395 including VAT.
